If you can't finish it, I'll help you.(如果你做不完,我来帮你。)
If it rains tomorrow, we won't pick apples When the apples are ripe
|---|---|---|
| if | 一个设想的情况 | If it rains tomorrow, we won't pick apples. |
| unless | 一个“除非”的条件 | We'll pick apples tomorrow unless it rains. |
| when | 一个时间点 | When the apples are ripe, we'll pick them. |
| as soon as | 一个时间点,“一……就” | I'll send you some apples as soon as we get home. |
| before | 一个时间点,事情在它之前做 | I'll wash the apples before Tom comes. |
| until | 一个终点,事情一直持续到那时 | We'll wait until the apples turn red.
If you see Tom, give him this apple.
When I've finished my homework, I'll eat an apple.
原来的问题是 Will it rain tomorrow?(明天会下雨吗?)和 When will the apples be ripe?(苹果什么时候熟?),问题本身就带着 will。
- I don't know if it will rain tomorrow.
- I wonder when the apples will be ripe.
If it rains tomorrow 去掉后,we won't pick apples 仍是完整的句子,所以这是状语从句,从句是在先定下一个情况。
When the apples are ripe,不说 When the apples will be ripe。 I'll call you when I get there(我到了就给你打电话),不说 when I'll get there。
本义依据:etymonline: will、if。用法依据:剑桥英汉词典:if、when、unless、as soon as、before、until、will;剑桥语法:Present simple、Conditionals: if、Reported speech: indirect speech。
